There are basically three types of Solar Systems for Residential, Commercial , Industrial & Agricultural Consumers.
An On grid solar system also called grid-tied solar system is simple solar energy system that is connected to the electrical grid and uses electricity from both the solar panel system and the utility power grid. On-grid solar power systems generate power using a solar power system and it is a non complicated system. It is designed to fulfill the requirement of the consumer during the day time and hence there is no battery back up, so during night time power requirement are fulfilled from the grid. As there are no battery backups so this kind of system is also economical as compared to Off grid Solar Systems or Hybrid Solar Systems.
These systems send excess power generated by the solar power system to the utility grid and consumers get compensated for the extrapower feedback.
This On Grid Solar System can export surplus electricity to utility grid and exchange for credits via the net metering system.
Off-grid Solar systems work independent of the grid and have batteries which can store the solar power generated by the system during day time and can utilize it during the night hours. The Off grid Solar System usually consists of solar panels, battery, charge controller, grid box, inverter, mounting structure etc.
Off-grid Solar Systems are designed to produce a certain amount of excess electricity during the daytime, which is sent to batteries for storage. The energy stored in those batteries can then be utilized when the system is not producing electricity at night or during cloudy weather.
Depending on the energy requirement of the particular area, Off grid Solar Systems can be designed to produce enough excess electricity in the daytime to cover the entire energy usage around-the-clock.
The Off Grid Solar System is a system which is best suited for remote locations and agricultural installations as it does not require any connection to the grid. The Off-grid Solar System requires solar batteries that may be expensive but it provides backup in case of load shedding.
This system does not allow net metering as there is no connection between the grid and the solar power system.
A Hybrid Solar System is a combination of On-grid System and the Off – grid System as it is connected to the grid and the batteries as well. Hybrid solar systems produce power in the same way as a On grid Solar System but it also stores energy in batteries which can be utilized at night time. Hybrid Solar Systems use special hybrid inverters to convert direct current in to alternating current.
In Hybrid Solar Systems, the generated power is utilized for routing requirement and also some of the electricity produced in utilized to charge the batteries. This system provides backup in case of load shedding and also allows the installation of the net metering system. which means that after charging the batteries, it can exports excess electricity to the utility grid.
The Hybrid solar system is relatively expensive due to all the equipment required to make it able to work both at on grid and off grid mode , but it is considered as the value able option where there is load shedding problem.
